ESKI SCOTT

Erik Scott

Erik's music career spans out in many directions and a lot of years in the music business. Scott played bass for many known bands, musicians contributing with this writing, co-producing, studio work, post production for major movies, TV and commercials, even when he was touring.   Erik started with a few signed bands, Erik was a product of Lake County Illinois, where his Mom took a teaching job, in the same high school in which he attended.  He made All State Champ in basketball, won a scholarship, graduated with honors but someone put a bass in his hands, he moved to Los Angeles to see what he could find. Scott became a studio musician first, making a name for himself, but it all stated when he was hanging out with these guys at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on Sunset Blvd.  Maybe you have heard some of these names.  Let's see, there was, oh,,,Frank Zapper, his pals Flo & Eddie (The Turtles), Lou Reed was one of their hangs too.  Then there was a guy by the name of Frank Zappa, too funny, combined with the witt of Alice Cooper and crazy antics of Keith Moon, well they couldn't help but get noticed.

In 1974 Erik was the bass player on Flo & Eddie's comedy rock album Illegal, Immoral and Fattening as well as their 1976 follow-up album Moving Targets. Scott also toured with the band from 1974 onwards.  According to Scott, it was Flo & Eddie that gave him his enduring industry nickname "Eski".  In 1978 Scott became the bass player for Tonio K on his solo album Life in the Foodchain, and in 1980 on Franne Golde's final solo album, Restless.  In 1980, Scott was co-producer on Peter McIan's album Playing Near the Edge, which was voted one of Cashbox's top ten albums of the year. Teamed up with Carl Palmer (ELP) and John Nitzinger in the group 1:PM as bass player for their sole album. They appeared on the German TV show Rockpop performing the single "Dynamite."  Scott was a producer on Sharon O'Neill's 1981 album Maybe, which reached number 38 on the Australian music charts and gold status,  (which would come in handy but unknown, that Sonia Dada would reach record breaking sucess in Australia years later).  During this period, Erik wrote and recorded music for major television shows, Starsky & Hutch, Charlie's Angels, The Love Boat and Vega$.  His wrting credits expand to acts such as Ted Nugent, Pop & Mavis Stables, which Erik won a Grammy for "Father Father", rock band Triumph and more.

Alice Cooper had been quiet for awhile, but jumped on board with the New Wave trend with Fush the Fashion.  Erik was asked to tour in support of that album, but meanwhile co-writing songs with Alice for the next album and tour, with a perfect theme, "Special Forces" and it was powerful.  Erik continued on, being the Bass Player/Music Director for that tour as well, working on new songs once again for "Zipper Catches Skin"  on WB's.  Erik co-wrote and co-produced that album at Cherokee Recording Studios in LA, where his wife Mickie manged the facility and others down the road.  Kim Carnes was in need of a bass player, Erik went along, he stayed for two more albums.  This is the time Erik meet Dan Pritzker, guitarist song writer, in a band Idle Tears on MCA, produced by Chuuck Plotkin (Bruce Springsteen). The bass player became the drummer, and because of mututal friends, Erik became a member.  Dan was not happy with MCA or the bands direction, but with Erik, the member guitarist Dave Resnik, they formed Sonia Dada.  An eight member eclectic, 'til the cows come home kind of band, signed to Capricorn Records.  This album, and the first single "Lover, You Don't Treat Me No Good No More" went to #1 on the charts in Australia/New Zealand, second single debuted at #3, knocking Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" out of place, and then going triple platinum.  This started a positive for Sonia Dada future, and now 5 albums later, they are taking a hiatus.   When on break, Erik stays busy with his solo career, writing, arranging and productions at Tuna Salad Studios.
